Hurricane Island Field Station

Hurricane Island Field Station

In addition to the master plan recently developed for the Hurricane Island Foundation, GO Logic developed a design concept for a small, off-the-grid field station to be situated on the coast of a 13-acre island in the Penobscot Bay.

The existing structure, currently used for storage, needs to be rebuilt to accommodate expanded educational programming, and to maintain the Hurricane Island Foundation’s mission to create an off-grid island outpost to be utilized for group science and leadership experiences. The new design for the field station has a 30% expansion of the footprint with an efficient and open plan to accommodate new programs, including a laboratory, small kitchen and spaces for gathering, education, and offices. The roof was re-oriented independently of the footprint to maximize space for the necessary solar array for off-grid operations.
